Gas Chromatography
The method is adapted to the determination of the concentration of greenhouse gases (N2O, CH4) in the range of ppm and for determination of CO2 concentrations in natural and laboratory model systems. The capacity of the system is approx. 15 samples/hour; no pretreatment of gaseous samples is needed. The method will be used in the RR2 – project 2.5. – Ecoremediation potential of the Ljubljana Marsh as a natural soil and water cleaning plant. The method can be applied in other projects, too, where meaurements of greenhouse gas emissions are required.
Apparatus
Agilent technologies 6890N Network GC system, equipped with an automatic sampler with ECD and TCD detector and a capillary column for N2O and CH4 separation, supported by a computer-governed system.
Hewlett Packard 5890 system with manual sample injection, FID and TCD detectors and separation column for CO2, connected to a Hewlett Packard 3391A integrator.

P and N ionic species Analyser
The analyser is used for determination of concentrations of orthophosphate, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and total dissolved nitrogen in water, wastewater, soil extracts and food. Pretreatment of samples is necessary (UV acid hydrolysis, reduction, oxidation…). Ion concentrations are determined spectrophotometrically. The method will be used in the project RR2 –2.5. – Ecoremediation potential of the Ljubljana Marsh as a natural soil and water cleaning plant, and also in other projects of the Centre.
Apparatus: Alliance Instruments CFA with detection limits of 5 &mug/l P for orthophosphate, 10 &mug/l P for total phosphate, 2 &mug/l N for nitrite, 20 &mug/l N for nitrate, 2 &mug/l N for ammonia and 0.05 mg/l N for total dissolved nitrogen. The system is equipped by an autosampler and a computer support system.

Bioreactor system
The INFORS HT bioreactor system enables simultaneous multiplication of prokaryote and eucaryote cells in fermentation chambers (volume 1 x 5 l and 4 x 2.5 l). A continuous or closed multiplication system is possible. The method will be used in the project RR2 –2.5. – Ecoremediation potential of the Ljubljana Marsh as a natural soil and water cleaning plant, and also in other projects of the Centre.
Apparatus: The fermentation system enables adjustment of pH and O2 concentration. pH, O2 concentration and temperature are recorded on-line.
